AGRIO introduces FlowBoom, a new automatic boom control system designed to provide precise and stable boom guidance even at higher working speeds and in challenging terrain. The system combines advanced sensor technology with an innovative hydraulic solution, enabling extremely fast response to changing ground conditions while keeping the boom steady and stable.

Maintaining the optimum boom height above the crop is essential for accurate and uniform application. As working speeds and boom widths increase, the demands on boom stability and automatic control become significantly higher. Uneven ground, changing slopes and headland turns cause movement of the entire machine, which can affect the position of the boom above the crop.

Booms that “float” independently of the machine

One of the key advantages of FlowBoom is its unique hydraulic boom tilt control. Boom position is largely independent of movements of the sprayer or towing vehicle when travelling over uneven ground or turning on headlands.

Thanks to a hydraulic circuit with pressure control valves, the boom is able to “float”, remaining stable even when the machine itself is moving significantly.

Pressure on both sides of the hydraulic cylinder is controlled to maintain the boom in a stable, horizontal position. When the machine travels over uneven ground, the pressure control valves immediately balance the hydraulic pressure to the preset level.

This means that FlowBoom does not simply correct the boom position after a deviation has already occurred. Instead, the hydraulic principle itself helps minimise the transfer of machine movement to the boom.

Compared with the standard DC TOP system, where the hydraulic valve block reacts only after detecting that the boom has moved away from the required position, FlowBoom represents a fundamentally different approach to boom control.

Hydraulic pressure available instantly

Another key feature of FlowBoom is its hydraulic system, which is continuously maintained at a pressure of 120–190 bar by two nitrogen accumulators.

A pressure sensor continuously monitors the system, and if the pressure falls below the required level, it is automatically restored.

As a result, when boom movement is required, there is no need to wait for the tractor’s LS system to build up the necessary hydraulic pressure. The required pressure is available immediately, allowing FlowBoom to react extremely quickly.

Proportional valves are used for boom height adjustment, ensuring smooth and controlled movement both upwards and downwards. The same principle is also used for individual boom wing lift.

Advanced sensors for more stable control

FlowBoom uses an IMU sensor located in the centre of the boom to provide the control unit with precise information about boom movement and inclination.

At the same time, ultrasonic sensors mounted along the boom continuously monitor its distance from the crop.

The new ultrasonic sensors feature their own microprocessors and calculate an average from several consecutive measurements before transmitting the data to the system. This provides more stable and reliable information for the FlowBoom control unit.

Based on this data, FlowBoom hydraulically controls boom height and tilt. On Vario versions, the system can also control centre boom lift.

FlowBoom is also available as an ISOBUS solution, allowing it to be operated directly through the tractor’s ISOBUS terminal.

See the difference in challenging terrain

The advantages of FlowBoom become particularly clear when working on uneven terrain, where the system must react rapidly to machine movement while keeping the boom at the required working height.

To demonstrate the capabilities of the new technology under demanding conditions, AGRIO has built its own demonstration track close to its production facility in Křemže.

Uneven terrain and a series of challenging obstacles demonstrate FlowBoom’s ability to respond quickly while maintaining precise and stable boom guidance.

As the sprayer travels over the obstacles, the contrast is immediately visible: the machine moves with the terrain, while the boom remains remarkably stable.

This practical demonstration allows customers to see FlowBoom operating in conditions where automatic boom control is put to the test.

FlowBoom represents the next step in the development of automatic boom control for AGRIO sprayers. By combining floating hydraulics, instantly available hydraulic pressure and advanced sensor technology, FlowBoom delivers fast response and exceptional boom stability – even at higher working speeds and in challenging terrain.
